Oklahoma Motorcycle Manual Online 2019

How does this work?

Riding a motorcycle can be an extremely enjoyable activity – many riders say they enjoy the adventure, convenience and freedom of being out on the road on a bike.

However, this also comes with responsibility. Motorcycling can be a highly dangerous activity, requiring you to be highly skilled and provide your 100% concentration at all times. According to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, “Safe riding is as much a skill of the eyes and mind as it is of the hands and feet.”

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety offers learners the Oklahoma Motorcycle Operator Manual, which you’ll probably agree is an essential resource when preparing for your motorcycle license exams. This OK Manual not only includes information on road rules and traffic regulations, it offers useful practical information to help manage your vehicle in the complex environment that awaits you.

Rider Responsibilities

Before setting out on the road, you’ll need to be prepared to take some responsibility for the events that take place on the road. Even in accidents, those involved will need to claim some responsibility for what happens. As a motorcyclist, you can’t be sure of the actions of other drivers on the road. However, you can take precautions that will help reduce your chances of being involved in a collision. Consider the following tips:

  • Visibility – Wearing the right clothing, using your headlight and positioning your vehicle strategically in your lane are some ways to increase your visibility on the road.
  • Communication – Using the proper signals, brake light and lane position can communicate your intentions to other drivers.
  • Distance – Be sure to maintain adequate distance between your vehicle and others when following, being followed, sharing a lane, passing and being passed.
  • Scanning – Look ahead on your path of travel, a minimum of 12 seconds’ distance.
  • Hazards – Know how to identify and separate hazards on the road.
  • Preparedness – Always stay alert and know how to carry out the appropriate crash-avoidance actions.
